I have been on Budesonide for about a year. I changed Dr's about five months ago. He had me tapering down too 3mg/day. I was on that for 2 months and doing Ok. He took me completely off several weeks ago and now the D is back. He then has put me back on 3mg/day. I hope it isn't a drug I will have to take for the rest of my life. Is this fairly common?

Let me know if anyone else has had this problem.

there are many here that have had return of symptoms once they stop the Budenside.

With the return of D when you stopped the medication, this is an indicator that you are eating or having contact with something that is a trigger.
What is your current Eating /Drinking plan?
Are you taking Vit D3 and magnesium?
are you taking any other medications?

Two options that have helped others.
doing a slower taper off the Budenside ie 1 x 3mg tablet every second day for a few weeks, and if that is successful then do 1x 3mg tablet every third day.
and for quite a few people, taking antihistamines as you taper off budenside has helped to minimise symptoms.

Food Intolerances : Gluten, casein, soy, and avenin, (avenin is the prolamin in oats, which is equivalent to the gluten in wheat), beef, grapes, peanuts, cashews, almonds, (but nut butters seem OK except for peanuts), citric acid, chocolate, and agar.

This usually happens for the first reason that Gabes mentioned a problem with your diet. Is there any chance that your diet is being cross-contaminated? Sometimes we have to reexamine labels carefully to make sure that we're not missing something, and occasionally manufacturers change the ingredients in their processed foods without warning. We have to recheck all the labels whenever we notice symptoms returning.

Is someone still using wheat flour in your house? If so, that's a common source of cross-contamination because when flour is handled, the dust particles scatter and land everywhere (even on utensils in cabinets and in drawers).

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
